Relationships with Campus Organizations
Organization and Staff
The UCLA and UC Berkeley Research Data Centers operate under a unified
governance structure with a common Oversight Board. Each site has two faculty
coordinators. The faculty coordinators are also the principal investigators
of the grants that support CCRDC.

The Research Director has overall
responsibility for the research activities of the Center. He works
extensively with researchers who use the CCRDC and promotes the Center to
researchers throughout California
and the nation. While his appointment is at UC Berkeley, he is equally
responsible for the research activities at both of the CCRDC’s sites.
Each laboratory also employs an RDC administrator who is a full-time
Census Bureau employee. The RDC
Administrators are responsible for administering the laboratories,
assisting researchers with proposal development and project execution, and
safeguarding data confidentiality. They provide data to the researchers for
use in their projects; they act as liaisons between the researchers and data
experts at CES or other parts of the Census Bureau; and they ensure that
knowledge gained from the research at the RDC is made available to the Census
Bureau for use in improving Census Bureau programs. As researchers
themselves, the RDC administrators are well prepared for this role. They are
typically the first point of contact for researchers who use the center.
Staff
CCRDC Oversight Board
The statewide CCRDC Oversight Board monitors the efficiency of operations and
quality of research at the UCLA and UC Berkeley RDC laboratories and helps
set overall policy for the CCRDC and its two sites. The CCRDC Oversight Board
meets annually and is composed of the CCRDC Director of Research, the UCLA
and UC Berkeley principal investigators, and representatives from major
research institutions in California.
Additional members from outside the state of California are also appointed when deemed
appropriate. The UCLA and UC Berkeley principal investigators rotate as chair
of this Board on a regular schedule. The on-site Census Bureau employees from
UCLA and UC Berkeley also serve as ex-officio members of this Board.

CCRDC Project Review Boards
Each site of the CCRDC maintains a separate Project Review Board. The Project
Review Board for each campus is chaired by the CCRDC principal investigator
from that campus and consists of nine faculty members serving two-year terms.
In addition, the CCRDC's Director of Research serves as a member of each
Board. Finally, the RDC Administrators (on-site Census Bureau employees)
serve as ex-officio members of these Boards and help coordinate their
activities. The primary responsibility of the Project Review Boards is to
review proposals submitted to the CCRDC.

Science Research and is housed in space provided by the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social
Research. Computing support is provided by Social Science Computing.
UC Berkeley Research Data Center
The UC Berkeley Research Data Center is administered through UC Data Archive and Technical Assistance
(UC DATA), which is part of the Survey
Research Center. The Social
Science Computing Laboratory provides computing support and physical
space for the Research
Data Center.
