CES Discussion Paper Guidelines

  1. Submit a paper to the series well in advance of its scheduled publication in a journal or book (at least six months). We cannot distribute Discussion Papers once they have been published elsewhere. (Note that inclusion in the CES Discussion Paper Series does not preclude simultaneous or later inclusion in any other working paper series.) Your paper will be put on the Internet and sent to CES researchers as well as to other CES research associates. You will receive 5 copies of the paper for your own use.
  2. Limit length to 75 pages (including tables, figures, references, and appendices).
  3. Send a completed submission form. Include JEL numbers, keywords and complete mailing addresses for all authors of the paper.
  4. Send two copies of the paper. Include a one-page, 100-200 word, double-spaced abstract. The abstract should convey the results of the paper in clear, concise, non-technical language and should emphasize your main findings rather than simply posing questions or mentioning your previous research. Please use active voice. Also, papers should include references. Remember that explicit policy recommendations are prohibited.
  5. Papers must be double-spaced throughout with at least a 1" margin on all four sides. Use a standard size font (10-12 point) for text, especially for figures and tables.
  6. Send a diskette containing an electronic version of the paper, in WordPerfect or Microsoft Word format. We strongly prefer these two formats given our plans to create PDF files for our web page. An electronic version of your paper (e.g. a PDF file itself) that would facilitate this would be helpful.
